When the Tau found a way to cross the deadly string of nebulae known as the Damocles gulf, they encountered the edge of mankind's empire. But this is the first time the account has detailed to this extent with playable missions based on the story. We learned more about her ascent in the novel that also bears her name. It is Shadowsun's rise to power and reason for being. We all know the general story of the third sphere of expansion from Codex: Tau Empire, it has been there since 5th edition. Shadowsun proves herself a brilliant and cunning commander in battles with the White Scars, Raven Guard, and Imperial Knights across several worlds to create growing room for the rapidly expanding Tau Empire.

It is a full scale invasion and occupation. This incursion is an planned and active expansion of the Tau Empire known to the Tau as the Third Sphere.

Just from the top, Kauyon is the first half of the conflict centered on the Tau incursion into the Damocles Gulf sector of Imperial space led by Shadowsun and Aun'Va. Though I will say that this book set is the only place I have seen the rules for the individual Tidewall components outside their boxes. This review covers the literary content of the first Kauyon book, not necessarily a review of the gaming aspects or missions listed in it. special units, and missions available in the first half of the campaign. The second book in the Kauyon box contains all the rules for the formations. Kauyon contains uniform illustrations, maps, artwork, and a functional story line for the progression of the opening engagements of the war. The other two parts are the Burning Dawn Miniatures set (the Infiltration Cadre for Tau), and "Mont'ka," the story of Farsight's role in the campaign. The first book, entitled "Kauyon" details the narrative of the first part of the Warzone Damocles Campaign Series. This is more than a novel, Kauyon includes two books. I will review them separately (partly because I haven't yet had time to read Mont'ka). Got my hands on the Damocles Warzone Campaign Supplement for Kauyon and Mont'ka. Here's what Skyler said about this in a previous post: They are much more resilient and they can jump-shoot-jump. Marker Drones just became better than Pathfinders. It requires at least four units of drones, and gives them jink, interceptor, outflank, precision shots, and split fire and +1 BS to ALL drones on the table as long as at least 2 drone squads from this formation are actually alive and on the table. In the Mont'ka book there is a formation called "Drone-Net VX1-0" for Farsight Enclaves Armies. WAY worse.īut there is a new formation that bumps that up a little. What's not to love?īS2, that's what not to love. And they can move a some more in the assault phase. After all, pathfinders are kinda stationary (at least if you want them to be useful with their BS3 makerlights you had better leave them stationary or put them on a tidewall).ĭrones are jetpack infantry which makes them relentless which means they can move and then fire heavy weapons at their full BS. I mean there are times when I want to put out a pack of marker drones to reduce my need for pathfinders -who my opponent WILL destroy. Ever want to take a squad of drones in your army, but just couldn't bring yourself to field a bunch of BS2 targets that your opponent will work really hard to ignore? Yeah, me too.
